Environment and Climate Change

Conserving Environment and arresting climate change is central to the mission of DETRA-Africa. We demonstrate how biodiversity is fundamental to addressing some of the world’s greatest challenges: tackling climate change, achieving sustainable energy, improving human well-being and building a green economy.
To deliver conservation and sustainability in Africa and at local levels, DETRA-Africa builds on its strengths in the following areas:

  • Professionals- We have a team of professionals and experts setting global standards in their fields, for example, the definitive international standard for species conservation and our cutting edge environmental livelihoods programme.
  • Action – A host of conservation projects all over the region from the local level to those involving several countries, all aimed at the sustainable management of biodiversity and natural resources.

  • Influence – through the collective strength of our partnership and our unique local level partnerships we have been able to influence decisions and laws.

We have therefore been able to implement key projects such as

    • Project on Promoting twinning of River Basins for Developing Integrated Water Resources Management Practices with support from The International Network of Basin Organizations-FRANCE (TWINBASIN X) an partnership with a local NGO Volunteers for Africa
    • Lembus Forest Ecotourism and Livelihoods programme in partnership with local NGO’s in Koibatek District, Kenya and support from Netherlands Committee for IUCN, Netherlands.
